To achieve the above goal, there are 14 key fruit trees selected to focus on developing in the coming time. They are: Dragon fruit, mango, banana, litchi, longan, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, rambutan, durian, jackfruit, passion fruit, avocado and custard apple.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target that by 2025, the country’s fruit tree area will reach 1.2 million hectares with an output of 14 million tons; in which, 14 major fruit trees as above reached 960,000 ha with an output of about 11-12 million tons.

By 2030, the area of fruit trees nationwide will reach 1.3 million hectares, with an output of over 16 million tons; in which, the area of 14 key fruit trees reaches 1 million hectares, the output is about 13-14 million tons.

Specifically, for dragon fruit, the orientation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is to keep the area stable about 60,000-65,000 hectares, the output from 1.3-1.5 million tons; mango grows about 130,000-140,000 ha, yield from 1.1-1.5 million tons; bananas reach about 165,000-175,000 ha, yield from 2.6-3 million tons.

For lychee, the area should be stable at about 55,000 hectares, with an output of 330,000-350,000 tons; longan is about 85,000 hectares, the output is from 700,000-750,000 tons; oranges reach about 100,000 ha with an output of 1.2-1.3 million tons; pomelo is oriented to develop about 110,000-120,000 hectares, with an output of 1.2-1.6 million tons.

With pineapple, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is oriented to develop about 55,000-60,000 hectares, with an output of 800,000-950,000 tons; rambutan keeps an area of about 25,000 ha with an output of 400,000 tons; Durian is oriented to develop about 65,000-75,000 hectares, with an output of 830,000-950,000 tons.

As for the jackfruit tree, the area of about 50,000 ha is kept stable, the output is from 600,000 to 700,000 tons; Passion fruit grows about 12,000-15,000 hectares, the output is about 250,000-300,000 tons; avocados keep stable about 25,000-30,000 ha, output from 250,000-300,000 tons; na keeps an area of about 25,000-30,000 ha, with an output of 220,000-250,000 tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assigns the Plant Protection Department to assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with localities in, disease management on fruit trees; guide localities to develop planting area codes and product traceability; coordinate with units to implement measures to expand export markets for fruit products..

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will work with localities, businesses and associations to remove trade barriers and expand markets; science and technology transfer; support farmers to borrow capital, build concentrated fruit-growing areas; cooperate in purchasing and processing products according to the market mechanism; attracting and investing in deep processing facilities to diversify products, improve quality and competitiveness of fruit products…

Besides the domestic market, the Ministry will focus on implementing measures to promote official fruit exports to the Chinese market. At the same time, continue to expand markets: Japan, USA, Canada, Korea, Russia, ASEAN, EU, Middle East, North Africa…

The report of the General Department of Customs shows that, in the 8 months of 2022, dragon fruit is the fruit with the largest export turnover of Vietnam, with a turnover of nearly 463 million USD; banana ranked second with 237 million USD; the third is durian reaching 158 million USD…/.
